Golfers should wear attire appropriate to the sport and clothing should not be scruffy or torn. The dress code in the clubhouses is smart/casual.

Golfers are asked to wear plastic cleats or soft spikes as these do minimal damage to the greens.

An indication of the time a four ball is expected to complete a round is given on the score card for each course and golfers are asked that they play without delay. Players' Assistants are on the Links to offer assistance to golfers and to ensure the speed of play is maintained.

The only course which requires a handicap certificate is the Old Course. The maximum handicap is 24 for men and 36 for ladies. A valid certificate from the relevant home golf club must be presented to the Starter before play. A letter of recommendation will not be accepted.

The Caddies at St Andrews Links are self-employed but have to register with us to work here and their experience and knowledge are indispensable, especially when playing for the first time. Caddies are paid directly in cash (Pounds Sterling) and the fees are £50 + gratuity or £30 + gratuity for a trainee caddie. Follow the link for more information. To request a caddie call +44 (0)1334 466633 or use our online form.

Payment can be made online via debit or credit card for advance bookings and is non-refundable. The green fee for golfers successful in the Old Course Ballot is paid to the Starter on the day of play. Bookings made within 24 hours and unreserved times should be paid directly to the Starter on the day. VAT is payable on all advance bookings made by any commercial concerns/third parties. Bookings made with St Andrews Links by an individual are VAT exempt.

Battery powered (£18) or manually operated (£5) trolleys are available for use on all courses and can be hired from the Starter or the Old Pavilion on the day. Please note trolleys can only be used on the Old Course after 12 noon April - October and not at all November - March.

Old Course

Golfers who are registered disabled with a permanent condition of disability and relevant supporting documentation may request a buggy for use on the Old Course between April and October. It will be driven by a qualified caddie driver. The buggy is provided free of charge but the appropriate caddie fee is payable. Golfers' disability documentation should be provided at the time of booking or when entering the Old Course Ballot.

Other courses

Buggies may be taken on the Castle, New, Jubilee, Strathtyrum, Eden and Balgove Courses by senior citizens (over 65) and golfers with a medical certificate. The fee is £30 and should be booked in advance.

All buggies are subject to availability and suitable ground conditions. To request a buggy, please call the Reservations Department.
